Brandy Velasquez joins Southland for Engineers Week 2026

Kicking off Engineers Week 2026, we're excited to welcome Brandy Velasquez to the Southland team.
Brandy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience across multiple sectors of the civil engineering industry. She graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and has spent nine years honing her craft on projects spanning land development, transportation, rail design, and construction.
Project portfolio
Brandy's extensive project portfolio spans both commercial and infrastructure work across Texas:
- Commercial site design — Chick-fil-A locations, daycare facilities, and retail centers
- Transportation corridors — major TxDOT projects including the IH-35 San Marcos and US 69 / IH-10 Beaumont corridors
- 3D modeling and design automation — extensive expertise in MicroStation and OpenRoads, instrumental on the major TxDOT highway designs
- Field engineering — served as the on-site field engineer for the IH-30 bridge reconstruction in Greenville, working hand-in-hand with the general contractor and TxDOT to handle change orders and resolve design challenges in real time
- Community-focused design — designed a community fishing pond for the City of Early that attracts hundreds of visitors per year
Why this matters for our clients
Brandy's hybrid background in both land development and transportation design is exactly what our clients need as DFW continues to grow. Subdivision and commercial projects increasingly require deep coordination with TxDOT, municipal traffic departments, and rail districts — and Brandy has worked all three sides of that table.
Her MicroStation/OpenRoads experience also rounds out our 3D-modeling capability, supporting more sophisticated visualization on complex sites.
Outside the office
Brandy stays busy keeping up with her seven-year-old and three energetic dogs. She is a master at acquiring new hobbies and currently enjoys hot yoga, Legos, puzzles, and plants.
