Southland Consulting Engineers is pleased to welcome Rebecca Martin, EIT to our Dallas civil engineering team as a Land Development Project Engineer. Rebecca joins us with nearly ten years of experience delivering civil engineering projects across North Texas, with a portfolio spanning education, residential, infrastructure, and commercial site development.
Background
Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Duke University, with a major in Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science and a minor in Philosophy. Before launching her engineering career, she spent two years in Sweden mentoring university students in leadership development — an experience that shaped her collaborative approach to project teams.
After returning to her native Texas, Rebecca built a project portfolio focused on land development engineering for both public and private sector clients across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
Project experience
Rebecca's North Texas project work spans:
- K–12 school district sites for ISDs across DFW
- Single-family residential subdivision design
- Utility rehabilitation projects (water, sanitary sewer, and storm)
- Water resources engineering and stormwater management
- Traffic control planning for active construction sites
- Commercial site development across mixed-use, retail, and office
A career highlight is her work for Mesquite ISD, where she designed the civil plans for the second-gym addition at all seven middle schools — bringing each campus's storm shelter into compliance with current Texas state standards. The project required coordinating storm-shelter design with site grading, drainage, accessibility, and utility tie-ins on active campuses.
What she brings to Southland
"My favorite questions have always been 'why?' and 'how?' The process of choosing the 'why' and solving it with iterations of 'how' is so fun for me. It's why I love civil engineering — I get to solve puzzles for a living."
Rebecca's combination of Duke-trained engineering fundamentals, project management experience across multiple municipal jurisdictions, and a curiosity-first problem-solving style is exactly the profile we're building around. She joins Christian Songy, Trent Ford, and the rest of the Southland project engineering team on active site-development engagements across the DFW area.
Outside the office
Rebecca lives in North Texas with her husband and two young daughters. She's an active church volunteer, a teacher, and a Dallas-sports fan — and she will happily debate the finer points of Star Wars canon with anyone who asks.
Welcome to the team, Rebecca. We're glad you're here.
