Southland Consulting Engineers is pleased to welcome Kham Nguyen to our Dallas civil engineering team as a Land Development CAD Designer.
Background
Kham graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2022 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His professional background is rooted in CAD work for the HVAC and power infrastructure manufacturing industries — translating complex engineering specifications into precise drawings used to build real systems in the field.
That CAD-first discipline transfers directly to land development, where the quality of the drawings determines the quality of what gets built. Kham brings a maker's mindset and a passion for building and problem-solving to the Southland team.
In his own words
"I've always loved creating and fixing things — whether it's designing HVAC systems in CAD, restoring a car, or crafting furniture in my garage. That hands-on approach carries over into my engineering work, where I'm always looking for ways to improve how things work and how they're built."
Why this matters
Civil engineering quality lives or dies in the drawings. A subdivision plat with sloppy detail callouts, missing utility crossings, or ambiguous grading transitions costs everyone — the contractor, the city reviewer, the developer, and ultimately the homeowner. Designers who think like makers, who care about how things actually get built in the field, are exactly the kind of talent we're building Southland around.
Kham joins our growing design team supporting active single-family residential, multi-family, commercial, and infrastructure projects across North Texas.
Outside the office
You can find Kham woodworking, picking up new DIY projects around the house, and working on cars.
We're excited to see how Kham's passion for optimization and improvement helps us deliver high-quality work for our clients. Welcome to Southland, Kham.
